he Fair & Safe Play initiative was created to assist people interested in encouraging fair and safe play in all areas of sport and recreation.
By offering guidance, education and access to resources, the Fair & Safe Play initiative provides a solid foundation on which a community, team, group, organization or school can base individualized initiatives.
Fair & Safe Play is a concept that has four main components which help everyone gain enjoyment from sport and recreational activities.
- Education
- Risk Management
- Fair Play Facilities
- Awards
This initiative is the most comprehensive of its kind. Nova Scotians are leaders in using Fair & Safe Play to make sport and recreation enjoyable for all.
FAIR PLAY CODE
RESPECT at all times for participants, coaches, officials, team-mates, spectators, opponents, administrators and volunteers.
SPORTSMANSHIP prior to, during and following the activity, demonstrating modesty in victory and composure in defeat.
KNOWLEDGE of all rules, whether written or unwritten, and following the spirit of all rules.
ACCESS for all to participate regardless of age, gender, race or level of skill.
PARTICIPATION in a manner that demonstrates more than just the desire to win. Having fun, making friends, improving skills and performing your personal best must be just as important when participating.
SPECTATOR CODE OF CONDUCT
I recognise, value and affirm the inherent dignity and the equal rights of all members of the human family.
An individual's conduct must be bound by the law, respect for property and by the rights of others to enjoy the game.
THEREFORE...
I recognize that participants play sport for their own enjoyment as well as that of spectators.
I will respect the official's decisions and encourage others to do the same.
I will not participate in violence, racism, sexism or any other unacceptable behaviour.
Spectators encountering difficulties are urged to contact event management.
Management shall take action for any breech of the spectator code.
THIS IS A "ZERO" TOLERANCE FACILITY
