Physical activity is a priority in the Valley region. The provincial Physically Active Children and Youth (PACY) data and the Active Kids, healthy Kids Strategy has inspired many initiatives and partnerships'. The Valley region partners with the Kings Regional Development Agency to employ an Active Communities Coordinator. That role supports and implements various initiatives.
In conjunction with municipalities, Health and Wellness provides support for the municipal physical activity leadership program to hire staff to develop and/or implement physical activity strategies. Digby and Annapolis now have physical actvity strategies along with Kentville and Wolfville.
We partner with the Health Promoting Schools program to support initiatives within schools. A unique partnership in the Valley is the After School program; municipalities; Health Promoting Schools; recreation departments and HPP collectively fund and coordinate after school physical activity programs throughout the Valley.
HPP is proud to support the positions of Sport Animator located in the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board and the Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provinical. A joint initiative of this partnership is the 'Live and Unplugged' program that takes place each spring.
Annapolis Valley Health and HPP are partners on a number of fronts with the Senior LINCs team and the Valley Senior Fitness Network on Older Adult Fitness. HPP partners with municipal recreation departments to support Active kids, Healthy Kids committees and a variety of initiatives.
The HPP valley office also collaborates with the Valley Active Communities Committee (VACC). VACC was created as a result of the Active Kids, Healthy Kids provincial strategy. Members represent the fields of health, education, and recreation. Together VACC works as a regional sounding board for discussions around programming for physical activity initiatives to fulfill provincial goals and strategies for increasing physical activity in the valley region.
