The Department of Health Promotion and Protection partners with other departments and non-government organizations to offer instructional programs. There are training programs for leaders in communities. There are learning opportunities to help the public participate in recreation, sport and physical activity.
Youth Fitness Leader Program
An exciting opportunity is available province-wide for youth ages 15 to 18 to lead group fitness class for their peers and children. The Youth Fitness Leader Program builds leadership skills, offers work experience, teaches the body and fitness and helps participants offer fun activity near home. Organizations can host the workshop and offer peer-led fitness classes. This program is an investment in developing youth's leadership and involvement in school or community.

Physical Activity
Make a Move
Make a Move is program that trains and supports health practitioners to counsel adult patients and clients to participate in physical activities for health benefits. The 3-hour workshops are available through Nova Scotia for a minimal fee which includes the workshop binder and toolkit.
Tumblebugs
Tumblebugs is program that trains caregivers and educators in child care, family resource and recreation centres to guide basic movement activities appropriate for early childhood. Regional workshops are regularly available through Nova Scotia for a minimal fee. Tumblebugs has activity plans and basic equipment.
Walkabout
Walkabout offers workshops and tools for leaders in community and workplaces. One workshop teaches leaders and concerned citizens how to impact policy to make a community more walkable. Another workshop orients employers and employees to lead walking groups for the workplace.

Everybody Gets to Play
Community volunteers and practitioners concerned with the recreation needs of children and youth living in poverty can participate in Everybody Gets to Play workshops. The program sets out to facilitate community involvement to address the importance of accessibility to quality and sustainable recreation programs and services. Sponsored daylong workshops are available upon request.
HighFive®
HighFive® is a quality assurance system that supports the safety, well-being and healthy development of children in recreation and sport programs. Workshops provide professionals with training and tools for policies, procedures and evaluation processes to become a registered organization. There is further training available to become an accredited organization.
Move More
Move More is an eight-week recreation program for adults who are not physically active. In a group, participants enjoy a mix of interactive presentations and discussions to learn about healthy active living with sampling of fun local physical activity opportunities. It is a key support and referral for healthcare professionals who are counselling patients or clients to engage in physical activity.
Walkabout
Walkabout offers workshops throughout Nova Scotia to orient adults to lead and participate in informal walking groups at the community-level. Many walking groups are available throughout Nova Scotia.
