During the summer of 2005, Nova Scotia had one confirmed human case of West Nile virus (WNV) which was contracted while traveling in an area where there were high numbers of human cases. Other than the travel-related case, there was no West Nile virus activity in the province in 2005. Testing of dead birds for the 2006 West Nile season is now underway. Test results will be updated weekly on West Nile Watch beginning in July.
