Immunization protects families and communities from vaccine-preventable diseases. It is also one of the easiest ways to be protected from potentially life-threatening diseases such as meningitis and chicken pox. Thanks to advancements in medical research, vaccines are more effective and extremely safe.
Infants and young children are particularly vulnerable to infectious diseases; that is why it’s critical that they are protected through immunization.
The province provides publicly funded vaccines to all Nova Scotians according to the Nova Scotia immunization schedule. The Department of Health reviews its immunization program to make sure it is in harmony with national recommendations.
For more information on immunization, contact your doctor or local Public Health Services.
