Canadian Injury Prevention Strategy

In the fall of 2003 stakeholders from across Canada, including Nova Scotia Health Promotion participated in consultation sessions and an online workbook to develop an integrated Canadian Injury Prevention Strategy.

This consultation process was coordinated by the Canadian Collaborating Centres for Injury Prevention and Control (CCCIPC), in partnership with SMARTRISK, a national injury prevention organization.  In addition, ThinkFirst Canada, the Safe Communities Foundation, Safe Kids Canada and SMARTRISK hosted a consultation with national organizations interested in injury prevention.

While these consultations have helped to determine the overall direction and components of a Canadian Injury Prevention Strategy, concurrent consultations have also been held in the areas of injury research and injury surveillance. The input from all of these consultations has been drawn together to form an Integrated Canadian Injury Prevention Strategy

Nova Scotia Health Promotion will work to ensure that the Nova Scotia Injury Prevention Strategy is aligned appropriately with the Canadian Strategy.
