Welcome
In February 2006 Premier Rodney MacDonald announced
the creation of the Department of Health Promotion and Protection.
The new department brings together Nova Scotia Health
Promotion, the Public Health branch of the Department of Health, and
the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health. By bringing together
experts in promotion, prevention and protection, government is taking
the next step forward in creating a healthier and safer Nova Scotia.

Loving Care:
Birth to 6 Months

Loving Care:
Parents and Families
|
Loving Care is a brand new series of health education booklets from Nova Scotia’s public health services for parents with children from birth to three years.
The booklets are unique in that they are written in plain language to help parents to better recognize and build on their parenting strengths with a focus on parent and child interaction and growth and development. The booklets compliment the many public health programs and services already provided to support families including home visits, breast feeding support, pre-natal education and parenting groups.
A french version will be completed in October and will also be available to parents and posted on the website.
For more information and support about parenting, contact your local public health office.

Food and Nutrition Support in Licensed Child Care Centres
Healthy eating habits are developed early in life. About 70% of Nova Scotia’s preschool children do much of their eating and learning about eating outside the home, so childcare providers play an important role in the development of healthy eating habits. The Department of Health Promotion and Protection in collaboration with the Department of Community Services have developed a report to look at ways to enhance food and nutrition support in licensed child care settings in Nova Scotia. |
