Deputy Minister of
Health Promotion and Protection
Duff Montgomerie


Mr. Montgomerie was appointed Deputy Minister of the Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion and Protection in March, 2007. Prior to that, Mr. Montgomerie served as the department's Assistant Deputy Minister.

Mr. Montgomerie has significant administrative and health promotion experience. He was chair of the Premier's Council on Canadian Health Awareness, Director of Community Relations for the Premier's Office, a senior Policy Advisor at Treasury and Policy Board, and a former Executive Assistant to the Minister of Health.

He has served as the Executive Director of the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission, was the first full-time director of the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation and was a member of the Canada Games Council board of directors.

Besides his significant provincial government experience, he has worked with the Central Nova Tourism Association and been in the real estate business.

Mr. Montgomerie began his career as a physical education teacher in his native Bridgetown in the Annapolis Valley.

He continues to remain active in the sports world as a basketball referee at the community and school level.

He has a Physical Education Diploma from the Nova Scotia Teachers College.

Mr. Montgomerie lives in Dartmouth with his wife, Joan. He has two adult children, Steven and Cindy, and two adult step-children, Martha and Matthew.
