| The Town of Canso is the recipient of the Model Volunteer Community Award for 2008.Although the Town of Canso faces many economic challenges, the Town is rich in volunteerism and community pride. The Town of Canso is proud to have many state of the art facilities that would not be possible without the strong community partnerships developed with various organizations and people of the Canso area. One need only look at Canso’s Stan Rogers Folk Festival to see the most amazing show of volunteerism of any community in the Province of Nova Scotia. In a community of less than 1,000 people, more then 500 volunteers give thousands of hours each year to put on a world recognized music festival. This international festival would not be possible without the volunteers that give so freely of their time and talents. Each year the Town of Canso partners with The Eastern Communities Youth Association, The Chedabucto Folk Society and the Canso Lions Club to host the annual Canso Regatta. The profits from this event go to support youth programming. Without volunteers neither the Town’s swimming pool, nor the Canso and Area Arena would not be in operation today. The Town of Canso actively seeks, encourages and also recognizes it many volunteers. The Mayor and Councilors themselves are active volunteers. Congratulations Town of Canso – 2008 Model Volunteer Community Award recipient. |
