Kim Silver was doing her best to provide healthy snacks for her two children. But week after week, she had to throw out shriveled grapes and dried-up oranges. Snacking was an “out-of-sight, out-of-mind” thing at her house – and fruit in the fridge was definitely out of sight.

Then she made one very simple change: she kept washed-and-ready fruit in a bowl where the whole family could reach it and put candy and other less healthy snacks in the cupboard. Now the whole family is getting their recommended daily servings.

Try it in your house this week. Just like Kim, you may be surprised how one simple little change can make a big difference.

Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection is proud to salute moms like Kim for finding ways to help their kids eat better. Even a simple fruit bowl can make Nova Scotia a healthier place to live.

Healthy Eating is a priority that Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection is addressing to make Nova Scotia healthier.
