Communicable Disease Prevention and Control

Blood-Borne Diseases

Three serious, and in some cases fatal, diseases are transmitted by viruses in the blood. HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C are preventable diseases that have major health and social impacts on individuals, families and communities throughout the province. While treatment is different for each of these diseases, prevention strategies (such as awareness, early identification, and harm-reduction practices) and social support activities (such as community support) are similar for all of them.
