Injury Surveillance and Research
The value of local research to ensure evidence based programs and interventions is critical to injury prevention in Nova Scotia. We support several surveillance and research initiatives, including the following projects:
Injury Profile Reports
- A goal set out in the Nova Scotia Injury Prevention Strategy identified the need to improve the monitoring and reporting of injury issues and trends in the province so as to better inform community action and policy development. Through collaboration with the Population Health Research Unit at Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection has been working on a series of injury profile reports regarding specific injury issues which are a priority in our province. Profile reports regarding seniors' falls, suicide have been completed and may be accessed here:
P.A.R.T.Y. Research
- Through partnership with Dalhousie University’s School of Health and Human Performance, Nova Scotia Health and Wellness has completed pilot research of the Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth (P.A.R.T.Y.) program with the help of local high schools. The project is now entering the final phase of the research expected to begin in the fall of 2007.
South Shore Health Falls Prevention Research Initiative
- This research project aims to provide insight into falls prevention activities on the South Shore of the province, and provide knowledge exchange opportunities within the community and the province.
