Good nutrition is essential for health and well-being, and making healthy choices is more difficult than it has ever been before.
Nova Scotia’s rates of diet-related chronic conditions, including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity are among the highest in the country. Research has shown that improving nutrition can help prevent these and many other chronic conditions.
Nova Scotia Health and Wellness is working with partners to give all Nova Scotians more opportunities to eat healthy – in schools, in homes, and in communities.
Together with our partners we have put in place a provincial healthy eating strategy. Through the strategy we work with our partners to encourage breastfeeding, to explore ways to help low-income Nova Scotians access nutritious foods, to promote fruit and vegetable intake, and to develop and implement food and nutrition policies and programs for children and youth.
