The person who assesses your needs when you call Addiction Services may find that you need withdrawal management before counselling. Withdrawal management (sometimes called "detox") helps you deal with the physical and psychological stages you may experience as you reduce or stop your alcohol, tobacco, or other drug use/activity. Depending upon your situation and location, it may be necessary for you to stay in a residential facility until your withdrawal is complete. Or, you may be helped through this period as a day patient who is able to go home at night.
Once you are past the withdrawal phase of your treatment, you will be ready to enter counselling in your community.
