Where Do I Go For Help

Community-Based Counselling

The first person you speak to when you call your local Addiction Services office will assess your needs and transfer you to a counselor or therapist who specializes in that issue.

Community-based counselling is done in person, so you will make an appointment to come to the Addiction Services office to meet with your counselor, who will structure your sessions to match your individual needs. Sessions are usually one-on-one, but they could also include your spouse/partner. The topics you discuss will be guided by your counselor, and all information will be kept in confidence.

General education and discussion groups are also available as part of community-based counselling. These are opportunities for you to learn about the experiences of others who are facing the same challenges as you, and to share your own. Knowing you are not alone can help you make the change you want.

Remember, if you want extra anonymity, you can ask that your community-based counselling take place in an Addiction Services office in a community other than your own.
