Health Guidelines

This website provides access to an inventory of practice guidelines developed by the provincial programs of the Nova Scotia Department of Health.

The inventory includes guidelines for prevention, screening and management of cancer, diabetes, renal and cardiovascular diseases, as well as guidelines for reproductive care. New guidelines and updates to existing guidelines will be added when complete.

This inventory is limited to guidelines developed or endorsed by the provincial programs. The guidelines do not represent a complete set for each disease. They have been tailored to the Nova Scotia context by addressing the specific needs of the population and considering the specific services available within the province.

Additional disease-specific national guidelines may be found by visiting the provincial program websites or the websites of the appropriate national bodies.

Other websites, like the Canadian Medical Association or the National Guidelines Clearinghouse provide links to a broad range of guidelines.

Individuals with questions about the prevention, screening and management of chronic disease, and reproductive care should speak to their physicians or contact the appropriate community-based organization. The provincial programs’ websites provide links to appropriate patient resources.
