Frequently Asked Questions from Paramedics

1. Insurance - As a registered paramedic with EHS, you are covered under an Errors & Omissions Policy for up to $2 million per occurrence and $4 million per annum. This applies to performing your duties as a paramedic (in the ambulance, in a hospital or at a scene). It also includes activities required to complete re-registration requirements.

Also included is the care you might provide to a sick or injured party you happen across anywhere in North America, as long as you adhere to the essential competencies of your registration level.

You are also covered when providing paramedic care while responding as a volunteer fire department member, again, as long as you adhere to the essential competencies defined by your registration level. You must understand that your volunteer fire department is also liable for your actions and would most likely be named in any legal action taken as the result of care provided.

What is not covered is the care you provide when not using EHS vehicles, equipment, medical policies and protocols and medical control. This would include contracting yourself to private organizations, such as race tracks or ski hills, to provide medical coverage.

If you have further questions, please contact Hugh Colborne of Marsh (Canada) Limited (formerly JH Marsh & McLennan) at 490-2110 (Fax 422-6843).
