REGISTRATION COMMITTEE MINUTES
PRESENT: E. Cain, S. Teed, H. Cameron, K. MacInnis, D. Denike, B. Nickerson, D. Semple, B. Nicholson, T. Fraser REGRETS: L. Kaizer, J. Humes, A. MacDonald, M.. McKeage, B. Cox
1.0 Announcements None 2.0 Additions to Agenda 2.1 If a Paramedic re-registers before their expiry date can they use the criteria accumulated from the time they re-register until their next re-registration date? No. The criteria they receive within their two year period is what will count towards their re-registration. For example if a paramedic is due to re-register December 1, 2000 and they re-register October 10, 2000, the criteria they accumulate from December 1, 1998 to December 1, 2000 is what goes towards their re-registration even if they re-register early. Any criteria accumulated from October 10, 2000 to December 1, 2000 would go towards their current re-registration not their next re-registration period. If a Paramedic accumulates more than the required number of M&M's, CEU's etc. can these be used towards the next re-registration period? No. Again the criteria accumulated within that two years goes towards that re-registration period and can not be carried over. 2.2 Additional Symptom Relief Course The school of EHS has created a Symptom Relief Program for the remaining number of Paramedics who still need Symptom Relief. There is approximately 4 interested people on our list. The school would like to know who will be attending this program, the date it should be put on and who is paying for it. It was also noted that the door is open to any Paramedics who are to complete their "remedial" Symptom Relief program. 2.3 How can Paramedics provide documentation of their Patient Contacts if they are working in Triage, ER and PTU? The registrar is to invite Eugene MacDonald from the QEII to our next meeting to discuss the above. 3.0 Approval of Minutes Minutes approved by D. Denike and seconded by B. Nickerson. 4.0 Registration Issues 4.1 T.H. Approval of Registration After a lengthy discussion it was concluded that the committee did not have enough information to make a decision of whether or not T.H. could register as a P1. Ed will be contacting T. H. with a series of questions. 5.0 Business Arising 5.1 National Occupational Competency Profiles for Paramedicine (NOCPP) - EHSNS Check List for CCP
The committee reviewed the Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) competencies. K. MacInnis and B. Nickerson brought along their thoughts on the CCP competencies. Over all there are not a lot of differences between the EHSNS Flight Paramedics and the NOCCP. Everyone agrees that it will be helpful when we get the guts to the NOCPP and a more in depth review can be done. 5.2 Legislation The next meeting will be on November 6, 2000 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The committee will continue working on the Paramedicine Act. 5.3 Registration of P2's The committee decided that EHSNS will no longer be accepting the registration of new P2's effective October 1, 2001. There will be no exceptions and no extensions. The Registrar will send out a memo to all bases, stars, communications, QEII, the Red Cross P2 Program and Holland College. 5.4 Circulation of Case Study Form in lieu of M&M's The Case Study form was circulated. It was suggested that QCM's be able to preside at M&M's, especially in areas that do not have the opportunity to do many of M&M's. Case Studies can be used for "2 of 4" M&M's for active EHSNS registrants . Inactive registrants can prepare up to "4" written Case Studies. These case studies are to be calls the paramedics were on and they must follow the outline below. These Case Studies must be submitted to their Medical Control Physician (MCP) for approval, if the Paramedic does not have a MCP they can send the Case Studies to the Provincial Medical Director for approval. Once the Case Study is approved it is to be sent to the Registrar at the address below in order to receive credit. The Registrar will send out a memo to MCP's and QCM's for interest. 5.5 Circulation of Preceptor Form The Log Book - Preceptor Patient Contact form was circulated . This is to be used when a Paramedic becomes inactive and needs to complete their 20 patient contacts before being re-registered as active. 6.0 New Business 6.1 NOBI - B. Nickerson B. Nickerson was concerned about the number of NOBI's in a particular area. Ed suggested that B. put in writing his concerns and forward these concerns to the QCM or the MCP's attention. 7.0 Agenda for the Next Meeting Not complete. 8.0 Next Meeting TUESDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2000 1:00 - 4:00pm (A LIGHT LUNCH WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM 12:00 - 1:00 pm)
