REGRETS: H. Cameron, L. Kaizer, Jonathon Humes
2.0 Additions to Agenda 2.1 Megacodes Ed is meeting with the Industrial Cape Breton MCP on May 30th and will discuss Megacodes and the availability, he will also remind all the MCP's that a QCM &/or designate is able to oversee Megacodes that are signed off by the MCP . It was noted that four (4) times a year would be a good number of opportunities for Paramedics to get their required annual Megacode as listed in the re-registration requirements for each level. It was decided at this time if a Paramedic does not have the annual Megacode for the previous year they may accumulate two (2) Megacodes in the current year. This is also possible if its at the same session. October 1, 2001 more Megacode equipment will be available. 2.2 Do you need a course or workshop to be a preceptor? After a short discussion the committee noted that it is up to the "learning institution" (who has asked the Paramedic to be a preceptor) if it's a requirement to have a course or workshop in preceptoring. 2.3 Brent Nicholson - Remaining as a committee member Brent asked if the committee still wanted him to be a member of the Registration Committee even though he is no longer with the School of EHS. It was felt that with his new position with Dalhousie University with the Division of EMS along with his experience and knowledge as a committee member that he is an asset to the committee. 2.4 CCP ID Cards Tanya will contact communications NS and see what colors are available for the CCP ID cards. An e-mail was sent to P. Pottie requesting a requisition number May 16, 2001. 2.5 Patient with NG Tube After a brief discussion it was agreed that a P1 may look after a patient with an NG tube if it is clamped. 3.0 Approval of Minutes of March 26, 2001 Minutes approved by K. MacInnis and seconded by H. B. Nickerson. 4.0 Registration Issues 4.1 Approval of ALSI P2 Program - Review panel A. MacDonald, J. Humes & B. Cox Additional information was received from ALSI on May 16, 2001. All requirements have been met and the ALSI P2 Paramedic Education Program has now been approved. A letter has been sent to ALSI with the decision. 4.2 Approval of P3 Registration for Paramedic (M.E.A) - Review panel D. Denike, K. MacInnis & H. B. Nickerson. The committee decided it would be beneficial for M.E.A to arrange for some ride alongs with EMC and to contact either J. Spicer or D. Denike to make these arrangements. M.E.A will be notified of the new protocols on the EHS Website for review. Then M.E.A can write the P3 exam as per the new protocols in the fall. As well, Ed will write a letter to Tony Eden regarding ride alongs. A letter has been sent to (M.E.A) with the committee's decision. 5.0 Business Arising 5.1 Review of CCP Essential Competencies - Should we have CCP E/C & CCP-Air E/C or have one set of E/C for CCP. It was decided that there should only be one set of CCP Essential Competencies for ground &/or Air CCP's. The committee has approved the CCP Essential Competencies and it will be sent to OC for final approval. The competencies listed after the dotted line are to be omitted with the exception of 2.1, 2.2, and two (2) additional competencies. Please note that the CCP Essential Competencies will eventually be lined up with the NOCPP competencies. As well, Tanya will begin working on lining up our current registration levels essential competencies to the NOCPP essential competencies. Please see attached the updated CCP Essential Competencies. 5.2 P3 Exam & P3 Exam policies - who must take it? As you are aware any US graduates of Paramedic Education Programs who do not have their NREMT-P can not register as a P3 in NS. It was decided that any US graduates of Paramedic Education Programs who have their National Registry will be eligible to write the NS P3 Exam. As well any graduates of foreign Paramedic Education programs whose curriculum is approved by the Registration Committee are eligible to write the P3 Exam. The P3 Exam Committee will be more involved in the policies for i.e.: how many re-writes a Paramedic may have etc. The Exam Committee consists of Rob MacKinley, Mike McKeage, Karen Mann, John Hubert, John Ross and Shelley Valaire. 6.0 New Business 6.1 Medical Terminology Course - CEU's? The committee decided that this would be worth two (2.0) CEU's towards re-registration. 6.2 Kinesinomics 40 hour Trainer Course - CEU's? The committee decided that they didn't know enough about this course and want the content before making a decision. 6.3 Instructor in Medic First Aid Basic - EMP America (2 days) - CEU's? The committee decided that this would be worth one (1.0) CEU towards re-registration. 6.4 Can a Paramedic view video tape(s) of an M&M and do a brief report to get credit for an M&M? No, the committee agreed that M&M's are available on a regular basis and Case Studies can be done if a Paramedic gets stuck. 6.5 Basic Emergency Preparedness Training - CEU's? The committee decided that this would be worth one (1.0) CEU towards re-registration. 6.6 P1 & P3 Training Review Form Changing to Meet the NOCPP Standards It was agreed that the P1 & P3 Training Review Forms will be changed to meet the NOCPP standards. More detail will be used as the NOCPP has provided sub competencies which we would include in our new review forms. We will insure that any individuals applying for registration or schools applying for registration will use the new templates. If they are approved, graduates of the program will be eligible to write the P3 exam. Tanya will e-mail Pac for clarification on registration. 6.7 Notifying approved programs &/or prospective students that programs need to be re-evaluated against new criteria for iei: Kennebec & Centre for Emergency Medicine. If they have their National Registry they will qualify to write the P3 Exam in NS. It was noted that this should be put in the Registration policy which will then be updated on the Website. 6.8 National Occupational Profiles - Review Area 7 pages 1, 2 & 3 on Transportation The committee feels that they should have an academic understanding or a knowledge of and that a Class IV driver's license is not required to be registered as a Paramedic 6.9 Review of NB Red Cross Dr. Cain reviewed the letter of response from the CMA regarding the loss of accreditation for the NB P2 Program. The committee was satisfied as CMA has worked with the program to establish conditions under which the current students will complete the program. The CMA has determined that the current students who successfully complete the program will be considered to have graduated from an accredited program. 7.0 Agenda for Next Meeting Not complete. 8.0 Date for Next Meeting THURSDAY, JUNE 14, 20011:00 - 4:00 PM (A LIGHT LUNCH WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM 12:00 - 1:00 PM) 1496 Bedford Hwy, Suite 600, Bedford 6th Floor Boardroom
