The centre, in addition to its primary role as a command and control centre for all EHS ground ambulances, also acts as the access point playing a coordinator role, for a number of provincial programs; including: EHS LifeFlight The EHS Communications Centre provides 24 hour dedicated dispatch services for EHS LifeFlight. The Air Medical Transport Communications Officer (AMT CO) receives the initial request for LifeFlight and then becomes the focal point of all communications, flight following, logistical requirements, etc. for the mission. Physicians, Paramedics, Air Medical Crew, and many others communicate with the AMT CO who coordinates crews, aircraft, land ambulances, landing zone officers, and medical briefings. The AMT CO is essential in helping to ensure safe, effective and efficient use of EHS LifeFlight in providing critical care transport. On-line Medical Control The EHS Communications Centre facilitates contact between field paramedics and medical control physicians for treatment orders, advice, and assistance. The Medical Control Program provides paramedics with expert assistance twenty-four hours a day, seven days per week anywhere in the province. EHS Medical First Response Through the work of the EHS Medical Director, EHS approved MFR agencies are now dispatched according to certain medical determinants. The Medical Director made these determinations by reviewing each of the medical complaints in the Advanced Medical Priority Dispatch System and analysing the level of care required for each of these potential conditions. This has helped to effectively manage call volumes for MFR agencies in the province and is assisting the EHS system in providing optimal care to patients. |
