Deployment Plans The Nova Scotia system uses a modified System Status Management (SSM) plan that matches demand for service, with appropriate resources. In the urban areas of the province, SSM is used to provide efficient, on-time service. Because of the very rural nature of many communities, use of System Status Management is much more difficult due to low call volumes, longer response times, extended transport times, and location of receiving facilities. In order to maximize efficiencies on a provincial level, all ambulances in the province are managed by a single communications center [link], that re-deploys ambulances throughout the entire region to provide the best response possible to patient requirements. As all ambulances are equipped identically, and all staff operate under a single set of medical protocols, this allows for flexibility to "post" ambulances at strategic locations that provide coverage to multiple communities. ![]() |
