Cardiovascular Health Nova Scotia

Activities

We currently have four working groups with a mandate to recommend standards and service delivery models for the province. Membership on each group includes representation from across the province with a broad base of expertise.

Acute Stroke Working Group
This group has developed acute care best practice guidelines for pre-hospital and acute stroke care (defined as the first week) which are currently being combined with guidelines for stroke rehabilitation.

Stroke Rehabilitation Working Group
This group has recently reviewed the stroke rehabilitation portion of the Canadian Best Practice Recommendations for Stroke Care 2006 (defined as beyond the first week through to community reintegration). These guidelines are being adapted in the context of Nova Scotia.

Acute Coronary Syndrome Working Group
This group is producing guidelines for the management of Acute Coronary Syndrome in Nova Scotia.

Access to Interventions and Diagnostics
This group is examining current wait times for, and access to, cardiovascular diagnostic testing and other services in Nova Scotia. The group will be providing recommendations to the Department of Health and Wellness to address cardiovascular access and wait time issues.
