Emergency room problems like long-waits, overcrowding and unplanned closures have plagued Nova Scotia's health care system for many years. Better Care Sooner is a plan to address these problems by keeping emergency rooms open, reduce patient wait times and provide better health care for Nova Scotians and their families.

This plan is focused on five key elements:

• Access to doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals
• Streamlined patient-centred emergency care
• Care for seniors, people with mental illness and others with complex needs
• Appropriate use of paramedics and the 811 nurse line
• Funding and better health results for patients
