Cheryl A. Doiron Deputy Minister of Health

Cheryl Doiron is Nova Scotia's Deputy Minister of Health. She has extensive experience in health care operations, planning and systems change management, having provided leadership in various health system organizations in three provinces and having served on numerous provincial and national boards and committees.

As deputy minister, she is responsible for health-care transformation in the province and for leading and enabling further development of an integrated, community-responsive health care system. She was instrumental in initiating the transformation and in bringing players together, and is now seeing it through.

She is a long-standing, certified member of the Canadian College of Health Service Executives. As well, she sits on the board of Canada Health Infoway, a not-for-profit organization that works to accelerate the use of electronic health information systems and electronic health records, and the board of the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), a not-for-profit organization that provides data on Canada’s health system and the health of Canadians.

In 2006, Cheryl was named one of Canada’s 100 most powerful women by the Women’s Executive Network, honoured with the Public Sector award. The award is given to women who occupy the most senior positions in government departments and who manage significant operating budgets. She was one of only 12 women in her category.
