In the early evening of May 8, 2009, Colin Brownell was driving along Highway 6 through Linden, and saw a vehicle on its side.

Mr. Brownell looked into his rearview mirror and saw a person’s hand pressing on the windshield of the burning vehicle. Mr. Brownell immediately returned to the crash site, where he pulled the vehicle to an upright position. He then dragged
Calvin Latta, who was trapped in the vehicle, out through the broken driver’s side window.

By the time Mr. Latta was pulled to safety, the vehicle was full of smoke and burning.
