GeoNOVA Announces Web Map Services
GeoNOVA is pleased to announce the release of fourteen new Web Map Services (WMS) available through the GeoNOVA Portal. These map services represent the work of GeoNOVA and many of its partners including Department of Education, Department of Environment and Labour, Elections Nova Scotia, Department of Natural Resources, Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, Town of Truro, and Halifax Regional Municipality.
GeoNOVA partners are releasing over 150 layers of spatial information using WMS technology. Information ranges from contours, environmental landscapes, schoolboard boundaries, to provincial electoral districts. Using an Internet mapping application, users can add one or map services into a map viewer and design their own customised maps.
Web Map Servers are quickly becoming a popular method for spatial data producing agencies to publish their map information. There are hundreds of map services available worldwide, and these map sources can be combined and overlaid with the services available now from Nova Scotia. To try out these map services, use the Nova Scotia Maps, and click ‘Add Services (+)’. Have fun!
For further details on each of the exciting new Web Map Services, please visit our page listing registered WMS’ in the GeoNOVA Portal. You can visit the GeoNOVA Portal at www.GeoNOVA.ca.
