GeoNOVA Announces Web Feature Services
GeoNOVA is pleased to announce the release of four new Web Feature Services (WFS) available through the GeoNOVA Portal. These feature services represent the work of GeoNOVA and its partner Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations.
Through GeoNOVA, Service Nova Scotia is releasing over 20 layers of geographic information using WFS technology. The geographic information being released includes topography, civic address information, street centreline, and geographic names. Users can extract spatial features from the services onto their PC using WFS enabled map applications. After users have the downloaded the feature data, it can be used to perform spatial analysis or create maps.
Visit our new page listing registered WFS’ in the GeoNOVA Portal. You will also find a list of WFS enabled map applications there.
Web Feature Services are becoming a popular method for distributing spatial data over the Internet. This new technology takes advantage of the Open Geospatial Consortium’s Web Feature Service specification. For more information, visit the OGC’s website at www.opengeospatial.org.
