Did You Know?
Millions of years ago Nova Scotia was actually part of Africa. When the Earth's crust shifted and Africa and North America shifted, Nova Scotia got left behind.

Nova Scotia Civic Address File Web Service

The Nova Scotia Civic Address Web Service is an XML Web Service that is publicly available at no cost for developers. The web service allows developers to integrate the Nova Scotia Civic Address File into their applications – the official civic address database for the Province of Nova Scotia. This database is updated daily and is the source for 911 based addressing for emergency response in Nova Scotia. By integrating this web service into your application, you will make certain that your application contains correct and valid addressing.

Please note that this web service is being updated for a second release. While we are working on this, geographic data from this service will remain available, but will not be updated.

The Nova Scotia Civic Address Web Service is located at:

Use the link below to browse a sample application that uses the web service. The sample application walks the user through a scenario of searching for a civic address through a series of drop down lists. First, the user retrieves a list of municipality names and selects one. A list of communities within the selected municipality is offered. The user then selects a community name and all of the streets in that community are presented. Once the user selects the street name, all of the civic address numbers on that street are available to select from. Imagine your Internet application integrating correct civic address information in these easy steps!

Please note that this sample application does not interact directly with a map. As a developer, you could integrate a map into your application using a Web Map Service. This sample application demonstrates how a developer could use the Nova Scotia Civic Address Web Service to retrieve and display address information for a user.
