GeoConnections and GeoNOVA hosting Workshop at Geomatics Atlantic 2006

GeoConnections and GeoNOVA are hosting a workshop to identify approaches for using location-based information and technologies in the areas of public health and public safety/security. The workshop will bring together professionals from the public health and public safety/security communities to build awareness in Atlantic Canada on the potential of geospatial technologies and information for use in evidence based decision-making. For example, representatives from GeoConnections, GeoNOVA, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada will share information on key federal, provincial and municipal initiatives of interest to members of public health and public safety/security communities.

Discussion is needed to further the development of operational systems that will better address the needs of users in these domains. As well, a technology showcase will illustrate how location-based information can be used by public health and public safety/security professionals to support them in addressing current and emerging issues. Increased collaboration is needed in these communities to reach the goal of further developing the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI). The CGDI can play an important role in improving information sharing and exchange within and across the public health and public safety/security communities.

To assist you in your decision to attend this workshop we have attached a draft agenda. Speakers noted in the agenda have been confirmed.
