| Nova Scotia Geopolitical Boundaries Project |
The department of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (SNSMR) has initiated a project to create a single mapping database representation of geopolitical boundaries within Nova Scotia. The boundaries included in the project will be representations of existing definitions for provincial, county, municipal, and Indian reserve boundaries and will become the provincial mapping databases encouraged for adoption by organizations requiring geopolitical boundary information for Nova Scotia.
Currently, many different Geographic Information System (GIS) database representations of geopolitical boundaries exist within and between various departments and organizations in Nova Scotia. As government departments and users embrace the use of GIS to collect, manage, overlay and analyze digital geographic data, it has become imperative that there be one common geometric representation of boundary information across the province, managed and maintained by one authority.
To achieve this goal, SNSMR has initiated a project to research and document the roles & responsibilities and management procedures for geopolitical boundary information in Nova Scotia. This research and recommendation phase is a first step towards producing the geopolitical boundaries database. |
