GeoNOVA Governance and Structure

The GeoNOVA Program implements a multi-level, need driven governance structure that includes a Steering Committee and several nodes (committees) that are formed around specific issues.

The GeoNOVA Steering Committee is a goal-oriented board that includes ten visionaries from municipal government, provincial government, and academia. These delegates are tasked with the responsibility of guiding the direction of the GeoNOVA program. The Steering Committee reports to the Deputy Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations.

The Steering Committee launches nodes as specific interests or issues arise. For example there is both a Municipal Node and a Provincial Node. The Municipal Node is concerned with issues facing Nova Scotia municipalities specifically related to geographic information. Likewise, the Provincial Node concentrates on geographic information issues facing provincial government departments. The GeoNOVA Portal Node is an example of a specific interest committee, and it concentrates on the delivery and content of the GeoNOVA Portal initiative. All Nodes are flexible in that they only meet when necessary and are driven by current issues and needs.

The members of GeoNOVA Secretariat are full time staff working for the GeoNOVA program. The Secretariat is responsible for the implementation of all GeoNOVA related activities and reports to all levels of GeoNOVA governance. For more information, please visit our Contact page.
