Funding Guidelines
Program Area Objective Eligible Projects Eligible Costs Funding Amounts*
Market Diversification Provides for the identification and development of new markets. Projects could include: Market investigation, research, analysis and planning; investigative travel; trade mission/show participation; development of promotional materials associated with new markets; promotional activities - chef and buyer awareness events both incoming and outgoing; co-operative activities that expand markets and joint venture businesses opportunities -logistics and distribution.
Program funding will contribute to research costs, travel costs, event delivery, promotional material development trade show/mission costs, in market promotions, sponsoring chef participation. Cost shared support ranging from 50-75% to a maximum of $35,000/per year to a maximum of 3 years.
Product Development Three types of projects will be supported, transitioning existing products to premium market categories, developing diversified bio-based products such as nutriceuaticals, and value added products at the secondary and tertiary levels of processing. Program funding will contribute toward costs related to product research, lab testing, nutrient analysis, sample production and testing, packaging and labeling. Cost shared support ranging from 50-75% to a maximum of $50,000 per product. In-kind expenses may be considered as a portion of the proponent contribution.
Productivity, Technology Enhancement Support for the demonstration of new or non-traditional equipment that support the strategic objectives of the program to enhance industry competitiveness and profitability. Design, purchase/lease and set-up costs of the equipment. Modifications to buildings or existing infrastructure are not eligible.

Cost shared support up to 50% of eligible costs to a maximum of $300,000.

A mandatory 10% hold back will be in effect pending the submission of a publicly accessible report detailing the outcome of the demonstration project

Quality Enhancement Projects that promote product quality at all levels of the value chain by improving processes, shipping and handling techniques, product testing, employee/manager training etc. Workshops/seminars, product testing and research, training, equipment development etc. Cost shared support up to 50% of eligible costs to a maximum of $50,000.
Eco-Labeling, Carbon Footprint

The costs of pre-assessment and certification of key fisheries by a recognized certification organization such as MSC.

Projects that reduce energy consumption and the carbon footprint of seafood production will also be supported

Eco- labeling -Third party consulting fees and other costs associated with the pre-assessment and certification of key fisheries. Costs to deficiencies noted in the pre-assessment may also be considered.

Carbon footprint- Professional services, workshops, training, and seed funding for demonstration projects.

Pre-assessment- Cost shared support up to 75% of eligible costs to a maximum of $30,000 for industry led projects.

Certification - Cost shared support up to 75% of eligible costs to a maximum of $80,000 for industry led projects. This includes funds to address deficiencies noted in the pre-assessment.

Carbon footprint - Cost shared support up to 50% of eligible costs to a maximum of $50,000.

* Funding is capped at $300,000 per project and at $300,000 for any single entity over the course of the program
