Innovation in Fisheries and Aquaculture

Fisheries and Aquaculture provides technical and financial support to commercial fishers, aquaculturists and processors in coastal communities in Nova Scotia; supports development and demonstration projects as a means of introducing new and improved technology to the industry; provides engineering services to other divisions of the department; and administers a federal-provincial Cooperation Agreement relating to aquaculture, fishing vessels and sport fishery development.

Nova Scotia is recognised as the leading fishing province in Canada. Our Community Development Program is designed to encourage coastal communities to take ownership of their own port infrastructure. Our Commercial Development Program is designed to research methods to fully utilize our fishery resources and provide the essential financial and technical assistance to those involved in various facets of the fishing industry.

    The Innovations in Fisheries and Aquaculture division of the Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture consists of trained and experienced staff who play an integral role delivering program assistance to our Nova Scotia clients in the fishing, aquaculture and processing industries. The cost-sharing philosophy of these programs nurtures the incentive for Nova Scotians involved in the aquaculture and fishing industries to promote their innovative ideas.
