Eligible projects are those of sufficient scope and scale to the enhance economic growth and competitiveness of the seafood sector. Preference will be given to projects that include partnerships at the industry and value chain level. Projects must be supported by strategic research/analysis, market information and a sound business plan. Industry contributions vary by project category but significant industry investment is expected.
Funding is not available for projects related to increasing traditional processing capacity, the reproduction of existing products or adapting technology that is well known or already in use within the region. Infrastructure projects for individuals or corporations will be supported as pilot or demonstrations of new or non-traditional technology. To qualify as a pilot project, the technology must demonstrate the potential to enhance the competitiveness of the sector as a whole.
Funding is not available for working capital, subsidizing or financing the purchase of standard equipment, or for infrastructure that does not support the strategic objectives of this program.
