In Nova Scotia and nationally, new housing prices were unchanged in March over the previous month. Five provinces reported growth in new housing prices, three reported no changes and only Newfoundland and Labrador and Ontario reported monthly declines.
Year-over-year (March 2024 vs March 2023)
Nova Scotia’s new housing prices declined 1.6% from March 2023 to March 2024. Nationally, prices were down 0.4%.
New housing prices increased year-over-year in New Brunswick, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia. Among the five provinces reporting declining year-over-year new housing prices, Nova Scotia reported the largest decrease. New housing prices were unchanged in Prince Edward Island.
Halifax new home prices declined 1.6% year-over-year in March 2024. Among Census Metropolitan Areas, the largest year-over-year gains were in Quebec City and Calgary, while Ottawa reported the sharpest year-over-year decline in new housing prices.
Year to date (January-March 2024 vs January-March 2023)
In the first three months of 2024, Nova Scotia's new housing price index is 1.4% lower compared to the same period in 2023. Alberta reported the fastest growth while Saskatchewan reported the fastest decline.
Halifax new housing prices were down 1.4% in Jan-Mar 2024 compared to Jan-Mar 2023. The fastest growth among CMAs was in Quebec City and the fastest decline was in Ottawa.
