The Nova Scotia Department of Finance, Economics and Statistics Division, is the Nova Scotia Statistics Agency as established by the Nova Scotia Statistics Act. The Division provides access to comprehensive, reliable and timely economic and social statistics. It provides analytical and advisory services to the Province of Nova Scotia, adding value to the provincial government decision-making process.

Acting under the Canada Statistics Act, the Division is also the Statistical Focal Point for Statistics Canada, which means it is the province’s representative in the national statistical system and it receives Statistics Canada data, for dissemination within the provincial government. In this capacity, the Economics and Statistics Division provides a variety of selected statistical information on its web site.

Nova Scotia Community Counts is a statistical infrastructure system that provides sub-provincial statistics for and about communities. It presents social, economic, environmental and cultural data that illustrate the unique nature of each community. It presents data at several levels of geography, from provincial to community, and with selected views for health, justice, municipalities, provincial and federal electoral districts. It provides data in a variety of formats, from tables to graphs, charts and maps, to make it easy for anyone to use. To visit Community Counts, click here:

In addition to province-wide and sub-provincial statistics, the Economics and Statistics Division also provides the economic forecast contained in the Budget and quarterly Fiscal Updates. The Division is responsible for drafting the section on the economy in the Public Accounts and Form 18-K. The Division also provides expert advice on economic policy and analysis to the provincial government and its agencies. See the contact information below for further information.
