Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board

As of October 1, 2008, the responsibility of the Nova Scotia Insurance Review Board (NSIRB) to review applications from insurance companies to change automobile insurance rates has been transferred to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (UARB).
Government believes that assigning NSIRB responsibilities to the NSUARB will result in the most effective means of delivering this important regulatory function to the benefit of consumers and industry.
This change coincides with implementation of two new regulatory changes: mandatory filing and claims notification requirements. The NSUARB is well suited to absorb the responsibilities of the NSIRB and will be able to effectively administer the new mandatory filing regulations, which will increase the number and frequency of automobile insurance rate applications.
