What's New Retirement Income Discussion The Department of Finance is seeking feedback from Nova Scotians and interested groups on ways to strengthen Canada's retirement income system for future retirees.
To participate, download the consultation paper (160K PDF) As of July 1, 2010, the Harmonized Sales Tax in Nova Scotia changed from 13% to 15%, due to an increase of the provincial portion of the HST from 8% to 10%.
The province is offering a number of HST rebates to offset the amount of the provincial portion of the HST for certain products and services. Insurance Cap Changes Amendments to the Insurance Act and related regulatory changes flowing from the cap review were introduced on April 28, 2010 and apply to accidents occurring on or after that date. These amendments and regulatory changes will come into force on July 1, 2010 to allow insurance companies time to make necessary system changes A new Comprehensive Integrated Tax Coordination Agreement (CITCA) between the Government of Canada and the Government of Nova Scotia was signed on April 3, 2010. Federal regulations under the Excise Tax Act (Canada) to effect the change in the provincial portion of the HST have been passed and were published in the Canada Gazette Part II on May 12, 2010.
