The Information Management division is the primary support and resource centre to the Department of Finance for the access to information and protection of privacy, and as such, all requests for accessing records and information, including requests for the correction of personal information, within the Department of Finance are processed through the Information Management division.

How do I request access to information?Requests for access to information can be made through one of the following:

• Nova Scotia’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPOP) Act - To request access to records not listed under our Routine Access Policy (PDF), a formal application may be submitted under the FOIPOP Act.  An application must be made in writing and forwarded to the FOIPOP/IAP Administrator for the Department of Finance.

• Finance’s Routine Access Policy (PDF). Requests for information must be made in writing and forwarded to the FOIPOP/IAP Administrator for the Department of Finance; or,
  • By contacting key staff in operational areas for published works that are actively disseminated (pdf).
  • List of records released as a matter of course, in response to a request, without the need for a formal application for records under the FOIPOP Act.
    

How is the Protection of Privacy administered?Protection of privacy is administered under Nova Scotia’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPOP) Act and the Personal Information International Disclosure (PIIDPA) Act
