We make appointments to non-adjudicative ABCs in two ways:
All vacancies on non-adjudicative ABCs must be advertised in provincial newspapers within the 12 months prior to an appointment being made. Bulk advertisements appear usually in April and October.
The latest non-adjudicative ABC advertisements are available online.
Applications are received by Executive Council Office and then forwarded to the department assigned responsibility for the ABC. From there, your application goes to a departmental screening panel. Screening panel members are volunteers selected by ministers based on experience in the area of concern of the department having regard to expertise, and being representative of the province’s diversity.
These panels screen for qualifications only. They do not rank applicants relative to each other. The Minister chooses the ABC member from the list of qualified candidates. These choices are then forwarded to the Executive Council for approval.
Most non-adjudicative appointments are sent for final approval to the all-party standing committee of the Legislature, the Human Resources Committee, after they are approved by Executive Council.
All applications are kept on file for two years. After two years, you must reapply to ensure your application will be considered as vacancies arise. If you wish to serve another term on a board, you must reapply.
The complete appointment process for non-adjudicative ABCs is set out in a Process Manual (PDF) approved by Executive Council.
