How to Apply (Adjudicative)

Vacancies on adjudicative ABCs are advertised across the province in October and April. These advertisements give a specified closing date for applications. Advertisements are also posted to this website, but only until the closing date.

You may submit an application for adjudicative ABCs at any time. Your application may not be considered until the next advertisement is run, depending on the stage of the selection process.

How To Prepare Your Application

  1. Review the adjudicative board position profiles available on this site to determine which boards you feel your qualifications and experience compliment best.
  2. Complete the Adjudicative Boards Application Form (PDF) (Word) or submit a cover letter and resume. If you submit a cover letter and resume, please use the application form as a guide to ensure that you include all required information in your cover letter. Note: If the WP link does not prompt for saving, but opens in your browser, select the WP icon on your tool bar - top / left. This will prompt you to save the template with a new file name in a directory of your choice.
  3. Indicate which board(s) you are applying for and whether you are interested in a particular position on the board, such as Chair or Vice-Chair. Explain how your qualifications and experience match those required for the board you are applying for. Preference will be given to applicants with previous involvement/experience in matters related to the board’s function.
  4. Include information detailing how you have demonstrated the following in your work, volunteer, or other life experiences:
    1. respect for the essential dignity of all persons regardless of their circumstances, and commitment to diversity and employment equity
    2. ability to apply a broad perspective on issues, and work with a team to listen to others, constructively solve problems, make objective and fair decisions, and reach consensus in a timely manner
    3. ability to deal professionally with confidential and sensitive information
    4. ability to communicate effectively and write clear and concise board reports
    5. peer/community recognition of high ethical standards and integrity in professional and personal interaction.
  5. Applicants for the head or chair of an adjudicative board should demonstrate in their application a proven ability, preferably as a board chair or meeting chairperson, in leading groups to constructively solve problems and bring about fair and consensus-based decisions

We thank all applicants for your interest. Only successful applicants will be notified when they have been approved for an appointment.

All appointments to ABCs are public information.

Your application is kept on file for two years. After two years you must reapply to ensure your application will be considered as vacancies arise.

If you are appointed to an adjudicative ABC, you must reapply if you wish to serve another term on the board after your initial term expires.

The Government of Nova Scotia has an Employment Equity Policy and we welcome applications from Aboriginal people, African Nova Scotians and other racially visible people, persons with disabilities and women in occupations or positions where they are under-represented. If you are a member of one of the equity groups you are encouraged to self-identify, on either your application, covering letter or your resume.
