What are ABCs?

ABCs are provincial organizations established by statute or regulation. Most board members are appointed to ABCs by Ministerial appointment or Order in Council.

What do they do?

Adjudicative ABCs consider evidence, make findings of fact and law, and issue decisions affecting a person's liberty, security, or legal rights. Adjudicative boards serve various roles and diverse interests and have quasi-judicial functions.

Non-Adjudicative ABCs make financial, regulatory, business, or policy decisions or recommendations to government that have far-reaching implications for all Nova Scotians.
