On February 1, 2007, Nova Scotia's new Renewable Energy Standards took effect.
These mandatory standards will make us a greener, cleaner province for generations to come.
By 2013, Nova Scotia will generate at least 18.5% of our electricity through renewable energy -- wind, tidal, biomass, solar and hydro.
As our green energy use goes up in the province, our greenhouse gas emissions will go down...making Nova Scotia an even healthier place to live and work.
According to latest research, RES could mean up to:
- 22% green electricity supply
- 300+ commercial wind turbines
- 581 megawatts wind = 175,000 homes
- 1.3 megatonnes CO2 cut = 240,000 cars
- Over $1 billion in investment
You will find more information in Nova Scotia regulations respecting Renewable Energy Standards and Wholesale Market Rules and an Act respecting Electricity announced January 25, 2007.
