Nova Scotia Renewables Public Education in Hydroelectricity

Public Education in Hyro Electricity

Hydroelectricity is a widely used renewable energy in many parts of the world.

The technology is constrained here in Nova Scotia due to our geography and the lack of a major river system to power a system.

Most of the province's hydro plants are small by utility standards, with the exception of the 230 megawatt plant at Wreck Cove, Victoria County.

There are also two small privately owned hydro plants in Nova Scotia.

In 2000, 8% of Nova Scotia's electricity was produced by hydro systems.

Currently there are approximately 400 megawatts of renewable hydro capacity generation averaging about 1000 Gigawatt hours of power annually in Nova Scotia.
