Hydro power generation has been a small, but consistent source of relatively lower cost renewable energy for Nova Scotians since the 1600s.
Most of Nova Scotia's potential freshwater resources have already been developed for hydroelectricity.
However, the Nova Scotia Department of Energy reviews those resources annually, from the perspectives of feasibility, economics, and the environment.
Now, Nova Scotia is looking farther afield for hydro innovation to help build a sustainable energy future for the province.
The Lower Churchill Hydroelectric Project
Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador have formalized the terms of the agreement to develop the first phase of the Lower Churchill Hydroelectric Project at Muskrat Falls. As a result of the project, Nova Scotia families and businesses will see noticeable economic, environmental and social benefits.
