LMA Information

The Canada-Nova Scotia Labour Market Agreement (LMA) is intended to help unemployed and low-skilled Nova Scotians who are not eligible for Employment Insurance benefits, particularly groups who are under-represented in the workforce. These groups are: Aboriginal people; persons with disabilities; immigrants; African Nova Scotians; Acadian and francophone Nova Scotians; workers over 55 years of age; youth; women; income assistance recipients; people who were formerly self-employed; people who have been out of the labour market for a length of time or are entering the labour market for the first time; and people who are currently employed, but who do not have a high school diploma, or a recognized certification, or who have low levels of literacy and essential skills.

Skills Up!

Skills Up! is a program that offers financial assistance to help African Nova Scotians get the training they need for good jobs. Clients can go to their local employment assistance service provider to be assessed and find out if Skills Up! is the right program for them. More information on the program can be found on the Skills Up! program page.

Works For You Program

Works for You is intended to support projects across the province which will increase the job readiness of LMA clients, and aid in attaching participants to the workforce.  The goal of the projects should be integrating or reintegrating clients into sustainable, insurable employment.

At this time, Employment Nova Scotia has invested the available Labour Market Agreement (LMA) budget under the Works for You program for project based initiatives for 2012/13.

Under LMA, Employment Nova Scotia is looking to introduce an individual based program that will assist in linking clients with jobs, and an announcement regarding this program will be released by early summer.
