Electricity cost index measures the Mining and Manufacturing (M&M) average price per kilowatt-hour (Statistics Canada, 2000).

Issue:
Electricity costs in Nova Scotia are high but stable.

Action to be taken:

Within the framework of the Nova Scotia Energy Strategy Seizing the Opportunity:
  • Develop a strategy to maintain a stable power rate structure in the province.

  • As part of the Electricity Marketplace Governance Committee examine issues of partial deregulation of the electricity distribution industry and alternative energy resources.
Outcome:

Competitively priced and available power in Nova Scotia will make it a more competitive place to do business.
