Electricity Cost Index
Electricity cost index measures the Mining and Manufacturing (M&M) average price per kilowatt-hour (Statistics Canada, 1999).
Issue:
- Electricity costs in Nova Scotia are high but stable.
Action to be taken:
- Within the framework of the Nova Scotia Energy Strategy "Seizing the Opportunity":
- Encourage the implementation of three-phase power. Three-phase power will reduce the overall operating cost of generating power by industry.
- Develop a strategy to maintain a stable power rate structure in the province.
- Examine partial deregulation of the electricity distribution industry and alternative energy resources.
Outcome:
- Competitively priced and available power in Nova Scotia will make it a more competitive place to do business.
