Planning for a High Speed Future

What’s in it for our community?

High-speed access to the Internet can be used by every community to improve the quality of life for residents. It is up to you to decide how. The Planning for a High Speed Future workshop will help you decide what Internet applications your community will invest in to:
  • invite people to come to your community to live, to set up businesses and create jobs, and to visit.
  • make community-based services better, such as youth services and services for seniors.
  • create online communities for those who find it hard to get out and meet people.
  • make it easier to reach government, for example to renew vehical permits, file income tax returns, or pay minicipal taxes.
  • ensure everyone can take part in education, job searches, and business networking.
  • make everyone’s technology skills better.
High-speed lets you do all of the above 25 times faster than dial up. Completing the Planning for a High-Speed Future workshop, will help your community set goals in three ways.
  • It helps you find out what your community already has going for it such as experience, skills and knowledge about online activities.
  • It brings members of the community together to share their skills and knowledge, which will be needed to build a successful community Internet strategy. This will build new relationships and make existing ones stronger.
  • It is an opportunity to invite new people to get involved in the community - people who may have never worked on a community project before.
