Planning for a High Speed Future

Who should take part?

Any community can complete this workshop. There are many types of communities. A community can be, a group of people who:
  • live in a particular place, or
  • share interests such as business, art, or volunteering, or
  • who share common characteristics, such as age or disabilities
Why not host a workshop for your community? Take some time to think about whom to invite to take part. Some of the people you ask may come from outside your community, but they often work with you on important issues.

These are some people who should be considered:
  • community leaders such as municipal representatives and staff
  • staff from federal and provincial government departments who live or work in the community
  • economic development agencies such as the regional development authorities (RDAs) or your local Canada Business Development Corporation (CBDC)
  • business groups such as the Chamber of Commerce, or Board of Trade
  • community development groups that work in your area
  • representatives from employers in important rural sectors such as
    • tourism
    • agriculture
    • natural resources
    • the fishery
    • manufacturing and service companies
  • local champions of high-speed use in the community such as
    • C@P site staff and volunteers
    • the library board
    • artists and crafts people
    • local experts in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), such as web designers, ICT consultants and companies
  • teachers, professors, and instructors from all levels of education, public and private
  • representatives of community groups, such as
    • seniors
    • youth, particularly those with leadership roles such as members of student councils
    • people with disabilities
    • new residents and immigrants
  • anyone who is already using high-speed or other communication technology
Each workshop will be supplied with a facilitator who gives everyone a chance to be heard. For a list of local facilitators, contact the rural broadband team. broadband@gov.ns.ca
